Clean, trim, and cut the green beans if using fresh. If using frozen, simply proceed.

Add vegetable oil to a frying pan heated to medium. Add the green beans and cook undisturbed for 1 minute if from fresh, or longer if from frozen.

Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl or measuring cup.

Once the green beans have turned bright green, add about 1/4 cup water to the pan and cook for 2 minutes, or until the water is mostly gone. Pour on the sauce and stir gently. Cook another 2 minutes, until everything is fragrant and most of the liquid is gone. Check for bean doneness. Taste and add more sambal oelek or soy sauce as needed.
